What’s more Australian than a picnic on Australia Day? Bring your picnic blanket, chairs and table to this year’s Australia Day celebration and enjoy breakfast at Naracoorte or lunch at Lucindale.
Australia Day celebrations kick off at Naracoorte at 7.00am at the Naracoorte Town Square with breakfast supplied by local service clubs, entertainment starts from 7.35am. The official ceremony commences at 7.55am.
Thanks to Council’s support breakfast is complimentary.
The ceremony commences with the flag raising ceremony, followed by an Australia Day address by Dr Liz Reed. Dr Reed is a vertebrate palaeontologist specialising in aged cave deposits, particularly in the World Heritage listed Naracoorte Caves. Dr Reed has an interesting story to share about her journey to becoming a palaeontologist and her ‘love at first cave’ when she first visited the Naracoorte Caves. Dr Reed leads a palaeontology research group at the University of Adelaide and is training the next generation of palaeontologists to study the remarkable Naracoorte Caves.
The ceremony concludes with the presentation of the Australia Day Citizen of the Year.
The Citizen of the Year awards reward and recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during 2018, and / or given outstanding service over a number of years, to a local community over and above normal employment duties.

Australia Day celebrations are an opportunity for the community to come together, acknowledge the contribution people have made to the community and welcome new citizens to the community. Australia Day events are held on 26 January.
